The Combatants League of Portugal greet your excellence and
wish you the best personal and professional achievements in your position.
On the subject in title, we communicate that the Combatants League is an institution under the Ministry of National Defense from Portugal ,with the mission of treat all matters related to former combatants of Portugal, in particular to identify places where Portuguese soldiers fallen rest in all warlike confrontations that occurred and where Portugal has been present, since the Great War(1914-18), to the present day.
In November 1972 a Portuguese soldier died near the Tanzania, in a sand zone existing in Rovuma river, and we have reports saying that probably he has been taken to Kitaya , and later to Mtwara. This happened during the Overseas Portuguese War and unlike other cases, was never ascertained the place where he is buried.
Inside the mission of the Combatants League above related and taking into account the desire to proceed with the location of the grave of the referred military – Furriel (military rank) - Castro Guimarães (Name), we request information about the existence of that soldier's grave Portuguese military in Mtwara, and possible identification of the same, allowing to transmit the information to the family, and the beginning the process translation of the remains to Portugal.
We also request that the information be provided in case it is located the grave, so that the family can be informed, and some information on how we can proceed to accomplish the translation, including how to obtain authorization from the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, leading to the beginning of the administrative process of translation to Portugal of his remains.

A Liga de Combatentes de Portugal cumprimenta V. Exa. A
deseja –lhe os melhores êxitos pessoais e profissionais.
Relativamente ao assunto referido em título, comunicamos que
a Liga de Combatentes é uma instituição sob a alçada do Ministério da Defesa
Nacional de Portugal, com a missão de tratar de todos os assuntos relacionados
com os antigos combatentes de Portugal, em particular para identificar lugares
onde soldados portugueses caíram em combate, como os confrontos que ocorreram e
onde Portugal esteve presente, desde a I Guerra Mundial de 1914/18.
Em Novembro de 1972 um soldado português morreu perto da
Tanzânia, numa zona de areia existente no rio Rovuma e temos relatórios dizendo
que provavelmente foi levado para Kitaya e mais tarde para Mtwara.
Isto teve lugar durante a Guerra no Ultramar e ao contrário
de outros casos, nunca mais foi descoberto o lugar onde o referido soldado foi
enterrado.
Dentro da Missão da Liga dos Combatentes, acima referida, e
tendo em conta o desejo de prosseguir com a localização da sepultura do
referido militar – Furriel Castro Guimarães, solicitamos informação acerca da
existência da sepultura do soldado português em Mytwara, e possível identificação
do mesmo, permitindo transmitir a informação para a família, e o começo do
processo de trasladação dos seus restos mortais para Portugal.
